Spatial planning is a process that aims for the mitigation of the impacts of human activities and eventual improvement of the state of the environment through coordination and implementation of various practices and policies. BalticAIMS is a new project, funded by ESAs EO4society programme, which looks at Earth Observation (EO) opportunities to provide support for maritime and terrestrial spatial planning in the Baltic Sea region. The programme is coordinated by SYKE, the Finnish Environment Institute, with partners from Germany and Sweden.
