Abstract

This new edition brings the reader into humans' challenges with the ocean and the future. It addresses the main questions in the United Nations Ocean Decade that aim to change how humans deal with the ocean. In the book's first part, art and dreaming are used as tools for connecting science and arts. This knowledge is applied in part II of the book, which is written in two modes: a concerned science mode and an intuitive, artistic mode in which the ocean is given a voice. Part II illustrates how science and art can be connected to increase our awareness of the state of the ocean and support behavioral change.
Part III deepens the description of humans' relationship to the ocean and our way of thinking with inspiration from literature and philosophy. Various possibilities for changing behavior are discussed there. By paying attention to the voices of the ocean embodied in art and collected through extensive observations by marine scientists, there are opportunities for a new relationship. There are unlimited amounts of hidden intelligence to discover and be inspired by. All the voices of the ocean today call for our attention.
