A new paper by Bernd Schneider and Wolfgang Matthäus in the Marine Science Reports of IOW gives a very nice overview over the history of marine CO2 research.
While it is a tribute to the Finnish chemical oceanographer Kurt Buch (1881-1967), it is also a great treatise of how chemical oceanography, and what we today call biogeochemistry, evolved in the Baltic Sea region. With many historical plots, photos, anecdotes and sketches of early instruments. Highly recommended for all researchers of the marine carbon system!
